Targeted Sports Program

At Terrigal High School, we have a Targeted Sports Program (TSP) directed towards gifted and talented sport students.

What do I do in the Targeted Sports Program?

Students in the Targeted Sports Program participate in TSP training every Tuesday afternoon during Sport Time. Each sport has developed a term by term program that aims to build up individual’s skills through cross training techniques as well as sport specific sessions.

If I am accepted in the program, what are the expectations?

Students in Year 8, 9 and 10 study the Targeted Sports Program elective as part of their pattern of study. Students will study units on sport psychology, goal setting, strength and conditioning and injury prevention and management. There will be some sport specific coaching in their chosen sport to complement their weekly training schedule. Year 7 students will participate in the Tuesday afternoon sessions to improve their fitness, sports specific skills and techniques.

Students who are selected into the Targeted Sports Program would be expected to be playing their chosen sport in a local competition. Successful applicants are required to pay a fee and be available to represent Terrigal High School in any Tuggerah Lakes Zone, Sydney North, New South Wales Combined High Schools, New South Wales All Schools Carnival, game or competition for which they are selected.

How do I apply?

All students seeking placement in a Targeted Sports Program are required to complete and submit an  Application Form.  Visit the TSP section of the Terrigal High School PDHPE website.

The selection process will include a trial in the nominated sport. The acceptance of a student into a Targeted Sports Program is dependent upon satisfying both schooling and sporting criteria.

The criteria for selection on merit in the Targeted Sports Program are:

  • An outstanding sporting record or potential
  • A sound academic record
  • An excellent attitude towards school
  • A sound student welfare record.
