The PDHPE Department at Terrigal High School offers students an exciting and diverse range of opportunities to develop essential life skills.
PDHPE is an integral part of the curriculum from Kindergarten through to Year 10, fostering growth across cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions. This subject encourages students to embrace healthy, active lifestyles and empowers them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing. The program emphasizes the value of physical activity, offering students fun and challenging experiences that build confidence and competence in movement.
At Terrigal High School, the PDHPE Faculty is passionate about helping students explore important health and wellness topics that will impact their lives both now and in the future. In Years 7–10 (Stages 4–5), all students participate in the core PDHPE curriculum, with the option to choose the Sports Studies Elective in Years 9–10, where they can explore in-depth subjects like fitness training, sport psychology, and coaching techniques.
Beyond the classroom, students are involved in team-building exercises, excursions, and can earn certifications such as First Aid, Bronze Medallion, and Coaching Principles.
In 2025, the school proudly introduced the Health and Movement Science course for Year 11, replacing the previous PDHPE course in line with NESA’s updated curriculum. Year 11 and 12 students also have a variety of engaging course options, including Community and Family Studies, and Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation.
A key feature of the PDHPE program is the Targeted Sports Program, which provides athletes with customised training plans, expert coaching, and support to help them balance their sports commitments with their studies. This program is a testament to the school’s dedication to supporting the development of both athletic and academic excellence.
The PDHPE staff at Terrigal High School are committed to fostering a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to excel. Their enthusiasm for teaching, combined with a focus on meaningful assessment and personal development, ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
